Capital One: Money Movement Design Intern

Capital One is a financial technology company with a mission to help its customers succeed by changing banking for good. I was a product design intern for the Money Movement services within Card & Bank Experience Design. I specialized in Zelle, Transfers, and Bill Pay.

This project is protected by an NDA, so I cannot share the extreme details and visuals of the deliverables created across the course of 10 weeks. However, don't hesitate to contact me for any questions!

Weekly Breakdown

Unified Payment Systems across Money Movement

My internship project was focused on optimizing and unifying payment flows across the Money Movement team. I designed, iterated, and user tested these updated flows across the duration of my internship.

Recipient-first approach

My final design iteration centralized participants while moving payment methods to the background.

Design system compliant

This new flow is consistent and holds up to the new Capital One branding refresh.

Less friction, easy flows

My final design is a simple, intuitive, and likeable way to do mobile banking with less roadblocks.

Takeaways

Takeaways

My internship taught me a lot of important skills that I know will further my career:

Quality over quantity

I was able to shift my mindset away from a student's perspective and from a full-time designer perspective. A small but justifiable design choice is much better than making useless, undefended edits to "churn" out ideas!

It's okay to ask for help!

It was my first time at a financial institution, and design works a bit different there. I was able to fully get the most out of my internship by asking questions and immersing myself in the culture.

Have opinions!

People want to hear what you think—and as a designer, that's crucial. Be prepared to weigh a lot of different opinions and try to move forward with empathy. Voice your own opinion to add to the flowing discussion.
